Established in 1958, Palmetto Senior High School has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The school serves a diverse population reflecting 40% white (non-Hispanic), 34% Hispanic, 18% black (non-Hispanic), 5% Asian and 3% multiracial.

Miami Palmetto Senior High is a nationally recognized senior high school located on 23 acres in the Village of Pinecrest in southeastern Miami-Dade County, Florida. Palmetto offers a challenging academic program, while providing stimulating coursework for students of all academic abilities. Currently, almost 3,400 students have 290 course offerings from which to choose.

Pinecrest is known for beautiful homes, large lots, and great local schooling @ Pinecrest Elementary. During the early 1900s, the area that is now Pinecrest, Florida, was used as a place to prepare for the construction of the Overseas Railroad to the Florida Keys. Then in the 1930s, the area began to grow as people settled around one of the first tourist attractions, Parrot Jungle, which was inside the Village of Pinecrest. In 2002, Pinecrest purchased the popular tourist attraction and named the garden that came with the purchase, Pinecrest Gardens.
