The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden a world renown 83 acre botanic garden was opened to the public in 1938. Dr. David Fairchild, the great plant explorer, guided the gardens to eventually become the center of palm research, conservation and horticulture. On an international level, the Fairchild Garden is among the leaders in the conservation of tropical plants and role that they play in preserving the biodiversity of tropical environments. Since 2003 the Botanic Garden has sponsored exhibits by noted artists and has become widely known for its seasonal weekend festivals.
